Response to the Jeremy and Rabbi Tuvia Arutz-7 Show

The holy prophet Zachariah received a prophecy while in the land of Israel during the period of the rebuilding of the second Temple in Jerusalem. Zachariah’s prophecy referred to the majority of Jews, who at that time did not heed G-d’s call to return to Jerusalem from the exile, and who rather chose to remain in Babylon. Zachariah, in his prophecy was told that the Jews residing in the exile should be well treated and welcomed with the greatest respect. In addition, all donations sent by those Jewish exiles to Israel should be accepted gladly for all time until the coming of the Messiah.

The Talmud states the rule that any written prophecy found in the books of the prophets apply to every generation until the coming of the Messiah, not only to the particular time that a particular prophecy was delivered. The verse states in Zachariah 6:10: “(You Zachariah) Keep taking from the exile (donations for the Jews of Israel sent by the Babylonian Jews) – from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah (three prominent Babylonian Jews) and you (Zachariah the prophet) will come on that day to the House of Josiah son of Zephaniah (to welcome and honor him), who came from Babylon (to live in the land of Israel).”

The commentaries explain this verse to mean that the Israeli Jews were required to maintain good relations and give the Babylonian Jews great respect. In addition, the Israeli Jews should value and welcome the donations of Babylonian Jews sent to the Israeli Jews. All this, despite the fact that the Babylonian Jews still did not heed G-d’s call to return to Jerusalem, but however still chose to remain in Babylon. This verse indicates that G-d would have preferred that all Jews return to Israel and not remain in the exile. However, due to the trying circumstances of those times, G-d did not openly condemn those Jews, who happened to be in the majority, who still chose to remain in the exile. The Jews of Babylon ended up remaining in the exile for hundreds of years.

In another prophecy delivered by Zachariah 4:3 the verse says: “Near it (the candelabrum) are two olive trees, one to the right of the bowl (of the candelabrum) and one to its left.” The commentaries say this verse refers to the two great spiritual lights that illuminated the Jews from two lands, Babylon and Israel. This means it is G-d’s plan that until the coming of the Messiah there must always be two great spiritual centers for the Jews one in Israel and the other in the exile.

The world renowned rabbi, Rabbi Moshe Feinstein ZT”L, acknowledged as the greatest expert on Jewish law of the past generation, stated many times in his famous book (Igeress Moshe) that, despite the lofty and great merit of living in the land of Israel, there is no legal obligation in our times for a Jew to live in the Land of Israel until the Messiah comes.

These are just a few of the too numerous sources to list that state that it is not sinful for a Jew to live outside the land of Israel before the coming of the Messiah. It is very sad that someone like Jeremy, no matter how well intentioned, has no right to present his own uninformed opinion as Torah law and the law of our sages as binding when the opposite of what Jeremy is said is the actual law.
Jeremy, as an ignorant Jew has no right or authority to pronounce Torah law, especially in front of a radio audience. I strongly condemn and denounce his actions and I insist that he remove himself from the radio forum and go and study the Torah before he speaks about subjects he knows nothing about.

Jeremy Gimple, by the way he expressed his views, clearly indicate and exhibits his gross ignorance of the Bible and the way of our sages. Jeremy, never bothered to even do the slightest amount of research about this important subject before expressing his views and condemning most of world Jewry before a mixed radio listening audience of thousands. I feel that Jeremy should have a least spent some of his time before going on the air to have looked into the Bible or at least looked into an English translated Artscroll book of the Bible. Jeremy reminds me of a clerk of a fortune 500 company who on the first day on the job wants to become the CEO without having the experience needed to handle the job.

 It is very apparent to me that Jeremy is more interested to talk in front of the microphone and hear his own voice rather than take the time to study and do the necessary research to say something of substance or accuracy. This is typical of what is described in the book of Proverbs that a fool talks many words and drowns out the words of the wise without realizing that is words has absolutely no value. To the contrary, not only is his words of no worth but his words are misleading thus causing great harm. The Rambam said that before one speaks one should think four times before he utters a word and especially before addressing such a large audience.

 I am very annoyed that such a person like Jeremy disseminates foolishness on the radio without having had the required years of study under a competent Rabbi before daring to open his mouth on the air. Only listeners, Jews and Non-Jews alike, who are unfamiliar with the Torah would give Jeremy the respect he craves. However, a slightly more informed audience would be angered by the way Jeremy insults their intelligence by expressing his words based on ignorance.

I am very disappointed at Rabbi Tuvia that he is wasting the precious time of his more astute listeners to pander and babysit with such a total fool as the likes of Jeremy on the air. Jeremy should do himself and the audience a great favor and save himself and Judaism further embarrassment and go a regular Yeshiva and study for many years before returning to the air. The quality of Rabbi Tuvia’s broadcasts has fallen into the abyss because of Jeremy, by going down to the level of total ignorance (Jeremy’s level).

 Tuvia should dump Jeremy and return to his former high quality format, the shows he once had broadcast in years past. Tuvia has done a great disservice to himself and in particular to his audience by denying them his vital high-quality teachings by changing his format to doing shows with a waste-your-time person, such as Jeremy. This is doing great harm. Please! Rabbi Tuvia, I beg you, send Jeremy to a good Yesheva and then invite him back to the air in about fifteen to twenty years when he could not do much harm.

First-of-all, I want to say that I have nothing to gain from writing this response. However, the Torah demands that one must do everything in one’s power to defend Judaism against those who try to undermine and threaten it. This is why I wrote this response.

Jeremy responded to Dacon9’s complaints about what he had said on the air in front of an audience of thousands of Jews and non-Jews. Dacon9’s main complaint against Jeremy was that he had insulted all Jews, both from the past and present, who have resided throughout the world, outside the holy land, for centuries.

Jeremy, while broadcasting on the radio, gave his legal pronouncement that Jewish law labels all Jews who reside in the Diaspora as sinners and especially calling the Diaspora rabbis the worst offenders of this law. It is this pronouncement and his strong emphasis relating to this statement that is so objectionable. Jeremy made this comment on the radio and gave his listeners the impression that what he said was the absolute truth and that what he said was the Torah law as was taught by our holy teacher Mosses at Mount Sinai. It was this pronouncement that Dacon9 and many others take great issue with. Not only is Jeremy absolutely wrong but he didn’t even do the slightest amount of research to verify his statement before he said it on the air. It is this statement and the way Jeremy presented it that has earned him the total disdain and condemnation of Dacon9 and all Torah True Jews. Jeremy has insulted and condemned the millions of Jews, including thousands of our most holy and greatest sages throughout the ages, whom they themselves had never lived in the land of Israel. He has condemned all our great sages and all precious Jews as sinners for not having lived in the land of Israel. I will now proceed to explain how ridiculous Jeremy’s assertions are.

(Jeremy! please pay close attention you might actually learn something for once). The way Torah law works is as follows: all of the opinions of Jewish law are based upon both the written and oral Torahs, as well as the teachings of the chain of sages going back directly back to Mosses our teacher. The oral law has very specific and rigid rules on how to interpret both the written and oral laws. Only an expert sage that has been trained and has been mentored for years by his rabbi on how to apply these rules and teachings is capable of deciding Torah law, using this very complex process. A later expert rabbi then studies and evaluates all of the various different opinions stated on any given subject of Jewish law, taught by the thousands of earlier sages, spanning all of the previous centuries starting with Mosses our teacher until the present. All of these opinions are all then gathered, processed, and evaluated by this later expert rabbi. Every rabbi, in order to be qualified to decide Jewish law, has studied and has been trained for many years under the expert tutelage and guidance of their rabbi on how to properly analyze, evaluate, and derive the Torah law based on all of the opinions of the all the thousands of sages of the previous generations going back to Mosses our teacher. These later rabbis often consult other rabbis of their caliber, when necessary, to derive the law. This paragraph gives only a brief overview of how this complex process works. It is no simple task to derive or discover the law. Very few individuals have the ability or are qualified and equipped to do this difficult task including myself. In fact, the Talmud says that only one out of a thousand Torah students has the ability to eventually graduate to be able to decide Torah law. In other words it is the rare few in each generation that have the ability to decide Torah law.

Rabbi Moshe Feinstein ZT’L was and is recognized throughout the world of Torah true Jewry as being the greatest expert on Torah law of the past generation (he passed away in 1986 at 96 years old). He was a Torah giant of the highest caliber. Rabbi Feinstein went through all of the processes mentioned in the previous paragraph. There was no area of Torah law that he did not study and was expert in. I know that I am not competent to decide Torah law. However, I do know, as most Jews know, that because of my inability to decide Torah law I must consult with a competent rabbi who does have this authority and ability. So I looked into the famous sage’s well known book “Iggeress Moshe,” authored by Rabbi Feinstein. This complex book explains and records the decisions of Torah law rendered by Rabbi Feinstein for the span of about fifty years. Rabbi Feinstein’s book contains the questions of Torah law that were sent by the greatest rabbis and laymen of his time, asking Rabbi Feinstein for his Torah decisions and opinions. These vital matters relating to Torah law are all recorded in Rabbi Feinstein’s book. Rabbi Feinstein reveals his incredible vast depth and breadth of knowledge of Torah law in this great eight volume work which is unparalleled in this generation. This work is a masterpiece of Torah law which has no modern day equal. All of today’s great sages and laymen refer to this critical book for reference and guidance concerning Torah law. It is a must for the person interested in deciding Torah law in today’s world.

Rabbi Feinstein addresses the question of living outside the land of Israel in our times in several different places in his book. Rabbi Feinstein, after citing all sorts of reasons and sources, concluded that there is currently no obligation for a Jew in our times to live in the land of Israel. In addition, Rabbi Feinstein emphatically adds that there is absolutely no sin for a Jew to live in the Diaspora in our times. Only when the Messiah will come will all Jews to obligated to live in the land of Israel. This quote is taken from Rabbi Feinstein’s book Iggeress Moshe Volume 3, Even Ha’ezer 1, chapter 120, page 153, found in the last paragraph.

Now let us get back to Jeremy. Jeremy is not a rabbi nor is he trained in any way to decide Torah law. Jeremy has simply stated that he is very concerned about the safety of all Jews that live in the Diaspora. This is based on the well-known anti-Semitism, upheavals, expulsions, and many massacres that have been inflicted upon our people throughout the centuries in the Diaspora. Jeremy exclaimed that this is his only source for deciding that Torah law labels any Jew who doesn’t live in the land of Israel as a sinner and it is every Jew’s duty to immediately move to Israel.

Not only is Jeremy’s opinion dead wrong but it was his demeaning and mocking way in which he presented his unscholarly and uncouth opinion. If he was truly concerned about his fellow Jews living in the Diaspora shouldn’t he have exhibited and delivered his message in a more compassionate and sympathetic way rather than mocking them in the most arrogant and condescending way. Rabbi Moshe Feinstein was well aware of all the sources Jeremy presented, which was obviously copied from some website or English translated book. In addition, Jeremy’s sources do not address the actual question that was introduced by Dacon9 of whether it is lawfully sinful to live in the Diaspora or not. The sources he quoted only talks about the spiritual advantages of living in Israel as opposed to the spiritual disadvantages of not living the land of Israel. No one argues about this point. Everyone agrees that it is far better to live in Israel. Jeremy’s proofs misses the point and does not in any way address the question of whether or not it is sinful to live in the Diaspora. Jeremy did not quote one authoritative rabbi or source to support his erroneous view.

Jeremy’s lengthy rhetoric was a desperate and poor attempt to conceal, confuse and divert the reader from the real issue for which Jeremy has no support. Jeremy lacks all of the qualities required to decide Torah law of which are intellect, knowledge, experience, humility, intellectual honesty, and extensive tutor ledge under an expert rabbi. Guess what Jeremy! The great sage Rabbi Feinstein disagrees with you or perhaps Jeremy would say that he disagrees with Rabbi Feinstein. Since Jeremy is not a rabbi, and recklessly and erroneously decides Torah law on the air before thousands without bothering to do the slightest bit research or preparation leads me to conclude that Jeremy is a lazy person who enjoys basking in his own artificially created self-glory and is a pompous, arrogant ignoramus. This is why I feel Jeremy has no legitimate credibility.

Basically, Jeremy is saying by his actions and statements that he doesn’t trust in the promises of G-d’s Divine protection and deliverance of the Jews living in the Diaspora as written in the prophets. In other words Jeremy is saying that Torah law can be decided or changed based on one’s feelings and insecurities and not making it necessary to base one’s decisions on sources and teachings derived from the Torah and our holy sages. Let’s practice feel-good Judaism. The law should be dictated by what makes one feel good. The Torah forbids us not to add or delete one commandment taught by our teacher Mosses. One who changes even one letter of the Torah denies the entire Torah and has no share in the G-d of Israel. This is what all the other man-made religions have done. Jeremy is in effect introducing his own new innovations to the Torah. By Jeremy’s statements and actions he has disqualified himself as a credible Torah true Jew. He must be denounced by all Torah true Jews around the world. Jeremy is a very reckless and dangerous individual. All of the Torah true people around the world must work join together to have this charlatan removed immediately from the radio. In conclusion, I call for the immediate removal of Jeremy Gimple from all Torah-true radio broadcasting and not to talk about Torah on the air, a subject he is unqualified to discuss on the radio. I call upon Tuvia to correct and retract all the terrible and damaging things Jeremy has said and return to the proper path. One time I visited my friend in Jerusalem on Pesach and we were eating cheese pizza at one of the restaurants serving chometz. Then one of those close minded religious Jews told me I shouldn’t be eating chometz on Pesach because the Torah says. I could tell from his accent that he was one of those American Jews living in galus who think they are as good as Israelis. Well I wasn’t about to let this “ignoramus” Jew who lives in galus tell me what to do and so I had to teach him a lesson on Torah. I told him that Ramban says living in the land is equal to all of the 613 mitvot and so I am keeping all the Torah everyday while you aren’t. He just shook his head and walked away but I knew I had won and it was the truth. After all my favorite Zionist Rabbis teach this and I heard it on my favorite radio show with Jeremy Gimpel. They wouldn’t twist the Torah to fit their Zionist agenda now would they?
