Knesset Speaker Rivlin: If we won’t defend ourselves, no one will

Yesterday was Yom HazikaronDay of Remembrance, when the over 22,682 Soldiers of the IDF, who gave their lives to protect the State of Israel and the millions of Jews living there, were remembered.  It is through their heroism that we live on.

From the Shabbat prayer: “They were beloved and pleasant in their lives and in their death were not parted.  They were swifter than eagles, stronger than lions to carry out the will of their maker and the desire of their creator.  May our G-d remember them with favor together with the other righteous of the world and avenge the spilled blood of His servants.”

Over 22,570 Israeli soldiers gave up their life and gave life to others!  May their souls rest in peace in Gan Eden.

May their families and their loved ones, whom they left behind, know only good and happiness from here on.

Today, the 5th of Iyar, is celebrated in Israel as the Day of Independence of the State of Israel.  We pray and wish that G-d watch and protect over the Holy Land and it’s inhabitants.  May it indeed be a celebration of independence; may the leaders of Israel remember that Israel is G-d’s gift to the Jewish people.  Israel has been ours for over 300 years and will be ours forever!  Israel should indeed be independent and do whatever is needed for the welfare of its citizens, build wherever they want without worrying about outside pressures.

We must remember the words of the Hagadah: “For it was not only one who stood against us to annihilate us, but in every generation there are those who stand against us to annihilate us.  But the Holy One, blessed is He, saves us from their hand.”

Israel is one of the greatest modern day miracles. Let this wonderful miracle continue forever!

In honor of this special day I want to quote the following two Psalms, said by King David:

Psalm 121: “I lift my eyes to the mountains – from where will my help come? My help will come from the L-rd, Maker of heaven and earth.  He will not let your foot falter; your guardian does not slumber.  Indeed, the guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.  The L-rd is your guardian; the L-rd is your protective shade at your right hand.  The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.  The L-rd will guard you from all evil; He will guard your soul.  The L-rd will guard your going and your coming from now and for all time.”

Psalm 122:  “I was happy when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the House of the L-rd.’  Our feet were standing within your gates, O Jerusalem; Jerusalem that is built like a city in which all Israel is united together… Pray for the peace of Jerusalem; may those who love you have peaceMay there be peace within your walls, serenity within your mansions.  For the sake of my brethren and friends, I ask that there be peace within you!”

HAVE A VERY GOOD, HAPPY, HEALTHY AND SUCCESSFUL DAY – LONG LIVE ISRAEL!
