ISRAEL SURVIVAL: Winners need not explain. Losers don’t live to explain

Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz (Likud) issued sharp criticism of US President Barack Obama Tuesday, after the White House’s repeated calls for a cease-fire in Gaza.

“It’s disappointing to hear the President of the United States present his request for an immediate ceasefire out of concern toward civilians in Gaza,” Katz said. “What about the citizens of Israel, who have been bombarded by rockets for years and threatened with abductions? What about the IDF forces, who have paid a heavy price to complete their mission?”
Algemiener staff: When a host on Britain’s Sky News television channel asked Israel’s Economy Minister Naftali Bennett on Sunday if Israel’s actions in Gaza were not “disproportionate,” Bennett shot back: “Are you kidding me?”

Jeffrey Goldberg observed (Bloomberg, July 11), “Hamas is trying to get Israel to kill as many Palestinians as possible.” Why not? Dead Palestinians “represent a crucial propaganda victory”

The foremost objective is to hit Hamas and collapse its infrastructure.” Steinitz added: “The secondary objective is to return the calm. This objective has yet to be reached. And we will take over all of Gaza if we need to. The third objective is the demilitarization of Gaza.”

David Rubin  commentator:  Every general in the free world knows that you cannot win a war – even a very justified war like this one -  by essentially giving the enemy 48 hours advance warning to evacuate a bomb factory or to plant booby traps with which to ambush our soldiers. Israel should ignore the private lectures of self-righteous politicians like John Kerry, recently caught off camera blasting Israel for harming civilians, yet publicly spouting empty words referring to our right of self-defense.

The IDF is not an organization of public relations apologists and should only be in the business of winning wars by defeating the enemy – speedily, decisively, and completely. For our political leadership to continue this risky political game of national suicide through pathetic apologetics is a danger to our soldiers and to their ability to win>  ARUTZ SHEVA
“We need to consider leaving an IDF presence in parts of the northern Gaza Strip,” said cabinet member Gilad Erdan. “Until we destroy the tunnels – we should not agree to any ceasefire offer.”  YNET
The Likud leader  Netanyahuh expressed his support for the soldiers. “In the name of the Israeli people I say to all of our soldiers in the field that we are proud of your strength of spirit and are praying for your safety. The military campaign is complex and will have difficult moments. I am positive that together we can achieve our objective.”

Communications Minister Erdan said  during a visit to injured soldiers in the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon. “There will be no ceasefire until the mission is achieved. This is part of learning from the past. We knew it would not be simple or easy, but we are seeing results faster than we expected. We have given a green light to expand the operation.”

On Monday, Hamas top terrorist Ismail Haniyeh again reiterated that the terror group would fight “until the last drop of blood” in its attempts to destroy Israel. “We will continue the struggle until we liberate the land, Jerusalem, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and return the ‘refugees’ to their homes,” he said.

With that, Haniyeh said that if Israel was interested in a cease-fire, it needed to fulfill Hamas’ conditions, which include an “immediate end to Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza on land, in the air, and by sea;” an end to targeted elimination of Hamas terrorists; a cessation of the policy of destroying terrorists’ houses; a halt to the flyovers by the Israel Air Force over Gaza; the reopening of land crossings, and the rehabilitation of the Gaza seaport; the free flow of goods into Gaza; a guaranteed supply of fuel and building materials; an end to “collective punishment” of Gazans; and continued supply of electricity.
