 The Congressional Medal of Honor (CMOH) is the highest decoration an American military person can receive for outstanding heroism and bravery in battle. Eighteen Jews have received the CMOH. There are probably more as many are unknown because they enlisted under different names. As in the past, the future will reveal more names of the Jews who received the CMOH.
This exhibit tries to capture their heroism through the illustrations and the official citations of their bravery. It also refutes the lie “that Jews didn’t fight in any of our country’s wars.” Jews have fought in every skirmish, battle and war from the American Revolutionary War to Desert Storm. The Jewish War Veterans of the USA, the oldest active veterans organization in the country, was organized on March 15, 1896, by seventy-eight Jewish Civil War veterans in New York City to expose the lies of Mark Twain and other writers of that day “that Jews didn’t fight in the Civil War.”

Observations on Soldier Life

THE LIFE OF AN ISRAELI SOLDIER IS…

 Sleeping on the floor of a public intercity bus while 50 cozy
civilians enjoy their seats;

Discovering that hobos are smart, in that cardboard really feels
like a mattress when trying to sleep on a concrete slab;

A 101.2 temperature is no reason you can’t pull guard duty

Discovering a new use for mil-spec night vision goggles:
stargazing;

Realizing that no matter how much you dream for weeks while on base

about the simple pleasures of civilian life, like dipping cookies
in milk, or drinking a beer with lime, your imagination will always

be infinitely more potent than reality;

Scanning the newspapers for your exploits, only to find
misinformation and truncation;

 Finding that scientific rules do not pertain to the army, like the
pack-a-day smoker who is the best runner in the platoon;

Waking up exhausted in the middle of the night to falling Kassam
rockets but not giving a damn, and certainly not enough to run to a bunker;

Watching red tracers light up the night unfazed

Experiencing unrivaled joy when having to eat kosher Spam plain but

miraculously finding ketchup;

Being called a ‘hero’ by a stranger on the street when all you
really did that week was work in the kitchen;

Finding that you hate your enemy most not when they attack, but
rather when they take away from valuable sleeping time;

Ignoring all the cool weapons and tanks and APC’s you dreamed about

seeing before the army because all you really want to do is be at
home, in bed, watching an action movie;

Wondering what real girls look like, since the ones that work
around infantry bases resemble armored Humvees more than anything
else;

Conversely, chatting with pretty Arab girls at checkpoints because,

eh, that’s the real challenge;

Looking in the mirror in full uniform and feeling ten feet tall and

bulletproof.

Although the military finally trained women pilots the services still played games with gender quotas, the pilot slots, combat exclusion laws and the type aircraft women were allowed to fly. From 1976 to 1993 women pilots were kept out of the cockpits of combat aircraft – in actual combat. Even though women aviators flew during Panama, Grenada and Desert Storm their presence was somehow “excluded” from combat records. Not until 1993 were women allowed to fly combat aircraft.

The first woman pilot in the United States flew in 1911 – it took the military 65 years to recognize and train women as pilots and another seventeen years to permit them to invade the sacrosanct area of combat aircraft. Gratefully the tide is turning. An all women Air Force Fly Over team was present at the dedication of the Women’s Memorial in 1997. A female Air Force Colonel – Eileen Collins – was the first woman to command a space shuttle mission in 1999. Air Force B-52′s and Navy Tomcats are being flown by women.

Finally – the sky is not the limit for women in the military!  During Desert Storm the first woman pilot gave her life while flying in a combat zone. Major Marie T. Rossi died at age 32 on March 1, 1991, when the Chinook helicopter she was piloting crashed near her base in northern Saudia Arabia. The unit she commanded was among the very first American units to cross into enemy held territory flying fuel and ammunition to the rapidly advancing 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions. Major Rossi is buried in Arlington Cemetery where her simple epitaph there reads “First Female Combat Commander To Fly into Battle

Another of the first American woman to fly in combat in the ’90s was Lt Col.Martha McSally, ranked as the top female Air Force pilot. Lt Col McSally was among the first women trained by the Air Force as a fighter pilot. During a 1995-96 tour of duty in Kuwait, she became the first woman in military history to fly a combat sortie in a fighter aircraft. She also flew more than 100 combat hours on an A-10 Warthog attack plane over Iraq in the mid-1990s, and served as a flight commander and trainer of combat pilots.

In 1993 when Secretary of Defense Les Aspin opened combat aviation to women, including enlisted female aircrew members, allowing women to fly combat missions, opportunities opened even more for women pilots and crew members. With these new opportunities female pilot numbers are increasing steadily with more and more women completing pilot training.

Today, in the war against the Taliban and al-Qaida targets in Afghanistan and Iraq, women are filling aircrew positions as bomber pilots, navigators, tanker pilots, and weapons officers – those who specialize in operating in flight arms – loadmasters, and varied officer and enlisted aircrew positions.

In the 2004 Air Force 19.6 % of the force was female.
*18.2 percent of the officers were women and 20 percent of the enlisted corps was women.
* 60.2 percent of the female officers are line officers; 39.8 percent are non-line.
*The population of women in the Air Force was 73,074.
* Women first began entering pilot training in 1976, fighter pilot training in July 1993 and navigator training in 1977.
*2004 there were 519 (3.8 percent) female pilots and 195 (4.1 percent) female navigators and over 600 enlisted crew members.

THE PRESIDENT’S DESCISION TO AVOID ARLINGTON ON MEMORIAL DAY:
 
Even if he participates in some event in Chicago’s local National Cemetery, does it say anything that President Obama is skipping out on Arlington on Memorial Day?  Since 1992, with the exception of President Bush honoring veterans one year in Normandy on this date, all presidents have visited Arlington on Memorial Day.
Does this say anything about his relationship with the military?  Some have pointed out that every call he makes to youth for national service has omitted military service.  I served my early days, of my active duty time under President Clinton, who was nothing short of honest about avoiding Vietnam, and ultimately, I think he worked hard to demonstrate his support for the troops to make up for that.  I definitely don’t believe President Clinton would have skipped Arlington if he were currently presiding over two wars where troops are dying on a weekly basis.

72-Year-Old Bnei Brak Talmid Chochom Celebrates Birth of Twins, Rav Shteinman Gave a Bracha

The story of a Rabbi Applebaum from Bnei Brak is heartwarming and is touching hearts as it makes its way across the chareidi world.
Having been married twice but never zoche to have children, Rabbi Applebaum – who will turn 72 in several months – didn’t give up. A friend of Rabbi Applebaum searched for a shidduch for him, not an easy task considering his age. However, with much perseverance, this friend found a woman, a divorcee in her fifties, who he thought might be an appropriate shidduch. The two met and the match was made.
Only after the engagement, however, was it discovered that this women had never had children. (Apparently, she had raised children in her home and they shared her last name, but they weren’t her children from birth. Hence the confusion.) 
On the day of their wedding, Rabbi Applebaum went to Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman. “What is going to be with my Kaddishel? Who is going to say Kaddish for me?” Rabbi Applebaum cried, expressing the pain that existed in his heart for decades.
Rav Shteinman responded that he’d be zoche to be the father of a baby boy. Rav Shteinman wished him mazel tov and that the wedding should be beshaah tovah umitzlachas.
Rav Applebaum got married to his third wife amidst great joy.
A year and a half later, this week, Rabbi Applebaum and wife just celebrated the birth – of twins.
This coming Shabbos, Rabbi Applebaum will be making a shalom zachor at his home in the Naot Yosef neighborhood.

The bureaucratic fashla [blunder] of our dysfunctional government to forestall the announcement of a new housing project in Jerusalem during the visit of US Vice President Joe Biden provided a pretext for the Obama administration to launch one of the harshest condemnations ever leveled against us by a US government. But while the timing of the announcement was appalling, it involved no breach of undertaking.
In fact, the Obama administration had previously publicly praised the Israeli government for making a “major concession” by imposing a settlement freeze which explicitly excluded Jerusalem.
The campaign was personally orchestrated by President Barack Obama. His Vice President Biden accused us of “endangering US lives in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.” Despite Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s abject apology, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton accused him of “insulting” the US. Obama’s chief political adviser David Axelrod even claimed that the Israeli government was deliberately undermining peace talks.
These hostile outbursts must be viewed in the context of the fact that despite strong ongoing support for Israel by the American people, the US-Israel relationship has been on a downward spiral since the election of the new administration. Former Mossad head Ephraim Halevy attributes this to Obama’s determination to rehabilitate Islam’s global tarnished image.
Yet his strategy of “engaging” Islamic rogue states has been disastrous. The effort to prevent the nuclearization of Iran by appeasing the Iranian tyrants backfired with the ayatollahs literally mocking the US. The response of Syrian President Bashar Assad to US groveling and the appointment of an ambassador to Damascus, was to host a summit with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hizbullah terrorist leader Hassan Nasrallah and ridicule the US demand that he curtail his relationship with Iran. President Obama did not consider this “insulting,” prompting the editor of the Lebanese The Daily Star to say that “the Obama administration these days provokes little confidence in its allies and even less fear in its adversaries.”
The Arab League refuses to modify its hard-line against Israel. It insists that Israel unconditionally accept the Saudi peace plan, a full retreat to the ‘67 borders and the implementation of the Arab right of return which would signal an end to Jewish sovereignty in the region.
THERE ARE now ominous signals that to obviate their failures, White House strategists are cynically distancing themselves from us in order to curry popularity by capitalizing on the anti-Israeli hatred which has engulfed the world.
Despite continuously incanting the mantra that it remains committed to the alliance with Israel, the White House is not behaving in an even-handed manner. Obama does not disguise his animosity and repeatedly humiliates our prime minister. The administration “condemns” us for building homes, not in densely Arab populated areas of Jerusalem but in Jewish suburbs like Gilo and most recently Ramat Shlomo which most of us regard as Israel no less than Tel Aviv.
Instead of condemning the brutal Palestinian murderer of an Israeli civilian in December, the US requested “clarification” after Israel apprehended the killers who the PA extolled as heroes. They failed to block a UN Security Council resolution criticizing Israeli police for protecting worshippers at the Temple Mount from Arabs hurling stones at them. They even condemned us for authorizing repairs on Jewish heritage sites over the Green Line.
In stark contrast, the US has not publicly reprimanded the PA on a single issue over the past twelve months. It is unconscionable that neither the White House nor the State Department conveyed a word of protest concerning the ongoing incitement and spate of ceremonies sanctifying the memory of the most degenerate suicide killers and mass murderers. Not even when our peace partners President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad personally partook in these ghoulish ceremonies. In fact, during Biden’s visit, the PA announced that they would postpone a ceremony to name a public square in Ramallah to honor Dalal Mughrabi, the female monster responsible for the abominable 1978 massacre in which 37 Israelis including 13 children were butchered. Nevertheless the ceremony took place and the PA TV interviewed Mughrabi’s sister who stated: “This is a day of glory and pride for the Palestinian people. We must unite, and our rifles must unite, against the enemy who steals our land.” The US failed to register a protest.
NETANYAHU HAS extended more concessions than any other Israeli leader. His government immediately agreed to negotiations with the Palestinians. In contrast, Abbas told The Washington Post that being confident that the US would ensure that the Palestinians obtained whatever they sought, he saw no benefit in negotiating with the Israelis. This scenario is now being realized.
Netanyahu also overcame Likud resistance to a two-state solution and acceded to a temporary settlement freeze which no previous Israeli government was willing to consider. He authorized the release of prisoners and reduced checkpoints, even compromising the security of Israeli civilians.
Yet, far from acting as an honest broker, the US effectively endorsed most of the Palestinian positions and is poised to pressure Israel into making further unilateral concessions.
In a recent chilling document, reiterated by Biden in the course of his condemnation of construction in Jerusalem, the US assured the PA that the principal objective of the “indirect” negotiations was not peace, but the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and that parties who adopted negative positions would be dealt with “in order to overcome that obstacle.”
Our relations with the US will now be further tested.
Obama is surely aware that recent statements by his administration will only embolden the Palestinians and Jihadists to be more extreme in their demands, making it inevitable that the talks will almost certainly fail. Some may infer that this is precisely his intention. We will then be blamed for the breakdown and the US, with the backing of the Quartet and others, will then seek to impose a solution upon us.
There are certain red lines which no government of Israel may cross. Netanyahu, on this occasion, must stand firm. The current crisis transcends political or ideological differences between Likud, Labor and Kadima. All mainstream parties should unite and convey to President Obama that Israel is a sovereign state and will not automatically bow to diktats of the US administration. They need to make the US administration and public understand that no government of Israel will agree to freeze construction in Jerusalem, the heart and soul of the Jewish people.
We may not be a superpower but the Obama administration will hesitate to pursue a path which rejects the consensus of the nation. A demonstration of unity against the unprecedented attacks on Israel’s sovereignty by the Obama administration will also encourage the American people and Congress to publicly support and assist us to reaffirm the traditional alliance and bonds of friendship between our two nations.
It will hopefully also encourage the Obama administration to relate to us with at least the same level of courtesy and respect it extends to rogue states.

How Quick They Forget: A Short History of U.S. Policy and Israeli Construction in East Jerusalem.

For more than four months the U.S. government has been celebrating Israel agreeing to stop construction on settlements in the West Bank while continuing building in east Jerusalem as a great step forward and Israeli concession deserving a reward. Suddenly, all of this is forgotten to say that Israel building in east Jerusalem is some kind of terrible deed which deserves punishment.

Israelis are used to this pattern: give a big concession and a few months later that step is forgotten as Israel is portrayed as intransigent and more concessions are demanded with nothing in return. Here is a short history of this round:

October 31, 2009: U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lavishly praises Israel as making “unprecedented” concessions in stopping construction on West Bank settlements while it is still going to build in east Jerusalem.

November 1, 2009: The U.S. State Department cheers Israel’s announcement that it will stop construction on West Bank settlements but not in east Jerusalem: “Today’s announcement by the Government of Israel helps move forward toward resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

March 12, 2010: Secretary of State Hilary Clinton says that Israel building in east Jerusalem is an “insult” to the United States, jeopardizes the bilateral relationship, and damages the cause of resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Meanwhile, even though the Palestinian Authority has refused to negotiate for 14 months; made President Brack Obama look very foolish after destroying his publicly announced September plan to have negotiations in two months; broke its promise not to sponsor the Goldstone report in the UN; and rejected direct negotiations after months of pleading by the Obama White House, not a single word of criticism has ever been offered by any administration official regarding the PA’s continuous and very public sabotage of peace process efforts.

Can people please point out that there’s a bit of a contradiction here?

 Dear Mr. Obama:

Was it the Muslim people that were  living   in America when the Pilgrims first landed?  Funny, I thought they were Native American Indians.

 Were those Muslims that celebrated the first Thanksgiving day?  Sorry again, those were Pilgrims and Native American Indians.

Can you show me one Muslim signature on the United States Constitution?

Declaration of Independence ?

Bill of Rights?

Didn’t think so.

Did Muslims fight for this country’s freedom from England ?  No.

Did Muslims fight during the Civil War to free the slaves in America ?  No, they did not.  In fact, Muslims to this day are still the largest traffickers in human slavery.  Your own half brother, a devout Muslim, still advocates slavery himself, even though Muslims of Arabic descent refer to black Muslims as “pug nosed slaves.”  Says a lot of what the Muslim world really thinks of your family’s “rich Islamic heritage,” doesn’t it Mr. Obama?

Where were Muslims during the Civil Rights era of this country?  Not present.

There are no pictures or media accounts of Muslims walking side by side with Martin Luther King, Jr. or helping to advance the cause of Civil Rights.

Where were Muslims during this country’s Woman’s Suffrage era?  Again, not present.  In fact, devout Muslims demand that women are subservient to men in the Islamic culture.  So much so, that often they are beaten for not wearing the ‘hajib’ or for talking to a man who is not a direct family member or their husband.  Yep, the Muslims are all for women’s rights, aren’t they?

Where were Muslims during World War II?  They were aligned with Adolf Hitler.  The Muslim grand mufti himself met with Adolf Hitler, reviewed the troops and accepted support from the Nazi’s in killing Jews.

Finally, Mr. Obama, where were Muslims on Sept. 11th, 2001?  If they weren’t flying planes into the World Trade Center , the Pentagon or a field in Pennsylvania killing nearly 3,000 people on our own soil, they were rejoicing in the Middle East.  No one can dispute the pictures shown from all parts of the Muslim world celebrating on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and other cable news networks that day.  Strangely, the very “moderate” Muslims whose asses you bent over backwards to kiss in Cairo, Egypt, on June 4th were stone cold silent post 9-11.  To many Americans, their silence has meant approval for the acts of that day.

And THAT, Mr. Obama, is the “rich heritage” Muslims have here in America .

Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot to mention the Barbary Pirates.  They were Muslim.

 And now we can add November 5, 2009 – the slaughter of American soldiers at Fort Hood by a Muslim major who is a doctor and a psychiatrist who was supposed to be counselling soldiers returning from battle in Iraq and Afghanistan .

 That, Mr. Obama is the “Muslim heritage” in America .

 EVERY AMERICAN, AND EVERY SUPPORTER OF THE FREE WORLD       MUST READ THIS !!
